Vignoble Clos du Vully
Jan-Daniel Etter opened the Vignoble Clos du Vully winery in May of 2016 on Magladry Road. He’s spent years growing grapes and fermenting wines to prepare for the 2016 opening.
The first grapes went into the property, a former dairy farm, in 2008, and part of the barn now serves as the winery, where Etter makes all of the wines himself with some help from his family.
Ottawa used to be too chilly to properly grow grapes for wine production, but new hybrid blends are more cold-resistant, and allow the Navan farm to grow five types of grapes. Frontenac grapes are a hybrid grapevine that was developed at the University of Minnesota in the mid-1990s.
